Artificial Intelligence in Music Production for Advertising

Authors: Tony Moreira
Categories: Journal

Abstract - This paper explores the use of Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) in the production of music for advertising studios and other commercial businesses. It will focus in particular on recent advances in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as it applies to composition and production of music for advertising. AI has had a major impact in music production improving the accuracy, realism, and efficiency of many of the aspects of audio production. These technologies are particularly effective when trying to quickly generate music that sounds more realistic and natural. The paper discusses the integration of AI in the plugins available in modern DAWs that enhance composing, mixing, audio processing, and mastering. Furthermore, it discusses the transformative impact of DAWs that use these features on the workflow and creative processes within advertising studios, emphasizing their role as indispensable tools for modern commercial audio production. The paper begins with a brief historical context that describes the uses and roles of DAWs and how AI technologies have been gradually implemented over time as the music production software and hardware evolves. The paper then discusses current state-of-the-art uses of AI in a professional studio. There will be multiple examples of techniques where AI is used to generate musical content through the use of virtual 'musicians' like Logic's Drummer or Bass Player plugins, facilitate sophisticated noise reduction and other types of complex audio processing, and as an effective mastering tool. The use of AI has become an essential tool for composers and producers, potentially increasing the efficacy of their productions while saving time and money for the composer/producer. For example, the use of the drummer or virtual bass player features simplifies (and speeds up) the process of creating a high-quality demo of the music which could be be played for a client as a reference so that they could make an informed decision in moving the project forward. Audio processing and mastering used to be handled by experienced specialists currently available AI has made them far more accessible to composers and producers.
