Targeted and Randomized Assessment-Based Instructional Methods in the Ear Training Curriculum
Authors: Nikita Mamedov
Categories: Journal
Abstract - Ear training is an indispensable component of music theory pedagogy, requiring tactical curriculum and well-strategized instruction on behalf of aural skills teachers to ensure enhanced student results, necessitating a standardized teaching approach that integrates randomized and targeted training when instructing identification and recognition syllabus components. While the development of ear training curriculum appears in the aural skills pedagogy research - as seen in studies conducted by Song (2019) and Gordon (2021) - the effect of ear training instructional methodology on students' academic results is absent from scholarly literature. This study employed a quantitative analysis to evaluate the statistical significance of using computer-based randomized and targeted standardized assessments at musictheory.net in improving students' scores in the triad identification component of the aural skills curriculum.
