Holy Week in the Land of Acquaviva d'Aragona

Abstract - Down the centuries, the Church has insisted on the precious function and great importance of music and song for a more active and intense participation in religious life. In the research, I tried to collect as much information as possible to reflect on the evolution of music and its importance for increasing faith also through popular rites, in a new ethnomusicological perspective, with the aim of helping to demonstrate the intrinsic relationships between music and socio-historical processes. one of the most important and significant aspects in life it is certainly constituted by the intimate symbiosis with music. The has always been considered as an instrument of education and communication, an important form of language, a means of expression available to all. The paper focuses on the rediscovery of the songs handed down orally and performed during the period of Holy Week in the Land of the Counts Acquaviva d'Aragona, a city in Apulia.
